80 years of Freedom, Column of vehicles
More information
Each Dutch city has its own date of liberation. On Friday morning, April 19, 1945, the Canadians and English drove into Elburg and the surrounding area with their tanks and military vehicles. Exactly 80 years later, in memory and celebration, a military column will again drive through Elburg and surrounding villages, consisting of various vehicles. The organization does everything possible to ensure that the convoy consists of the same vehicles as 80 years ago. The props come from Wassenaar, Amersfoort and the ASK 't Harde, for example, and the organization certainly has an eye on a Sherman tank.

The tour starts at the Knobbel and will visit 't Harde, Hoge Enk, Nunspeet, Doornspijk, Elburg, Oostendorp, Oosterwolde and Oldebroek. Each core organizes its own activity from the orange association to celebrate the arrival of the column. In Elburg, when the weather is good, a concert is given in the city center by Concordia in collaboration with a carillonneur. The organization calls on interested parties and residents to greet the columns along the side of the road, possibly with a waving flag in their hand.
The beautiful photos have been made available to us by Arent thoe Boecop, the antiquities association of Elburg.
